Boyne smelter development project reaches safety milestones

July was the month for safety milestones for the Boyne Smelter Development (BSD) project under way on the Boyne Smelters Limited site on Boyne Island, Queensland.

During the month, the team achieved 250,000 person-hours worked without a recordable injury, and one year without a lost day injury.

The recordable injury classification refers to injuries that result in lost work days, restricted work tasks or medical treatment.

In acknowledgement of this achievement, project employees and contractors received a work belt as a commemorative gift from the project team.

A light lunch was held following the BSD Project Steering Committee meeting in August to acknowledge the milestone. At this lunch, contractor leaders were personally thanked by Project Steering Committee Chairperson and Rio Tinto Alcan Primary Metal Pacific president, Xiaoling Liu.
