Education and playgroups

There are a number of schools in the Gladstone region for children to attend.

Playgroups are common for those with small children. Gladstone's Community Health Centre, located at Flinders Street in Gladstone, phone (07) 4976 3130, can assist with details of playgroups in the area. There is also the Boyne Valley Primary Health Care Centre on telephone (07) 4974 1168.

Gladstone is also home to a Technical and Further Education (TAFE) college, which has campuses throughout Queensland. The TAFE offers many courses in diverse areas. Check the central TAFE Web site for more information about courses of study: www.tafe.net.

Air

The only regional airport is called Gladstone Airport, located about 8 minutes from the centre of the city. There are several flights a day to and from Brisbane and Rockhampton. The airport is also the place where you catch the helicopter to Heron Island.

Around town, you will find plenty of taxis and in some areas a bus route will operate near by. Pets

There are some designated areas where you can have your dogs off leash or on leash. Signs are displayed to advise owners of local council requirements. One off-leash park is Webb Park located on the corner of Blain Drive and Palm Drive in Gladstone. Canoe Point at Tannum Sands is a beach area where you can also run your dog off the leash. On-leash parks include the Marina, Spinnaker Park, and some areas of the beachfront at Tannum Sands.
Veterinary surgeons are listed in the Yellow Pages telephone directory. There are a number located in Gladstone and one surgery at Calliope. The Calliope Shire Council and the Gladstone City Council and have laws regarding pet ownership. Dogs and cats must be registered with the appropriate council body that governs the area where the pet is housed.
